Welcome to my portfolio! This is the site that I submitted for the Dorothy Greer Scholarship. I am currently the Editor-In-Chief of the Monarch Mosaic yearbook at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado.

Prior to diving in to the site, I thought it would be helpful to give you some insight about my reasons for applying to be the Journalist of the Year. There is more information about me in the “About Me” tab, but this is a good start.

Here’s a little background into my career as a student journalist. I applied to be a member of the yearbook staff at Naperville Central High School in Naperville, IL during my freshman year of high school. Over my freshman summer, I moved to Colorado and worried that I would not be able to have the same fun yearbook experience that I had envisioned. But I  was so wrong. When I walked in to L205, our yearbook classroom at Monarch, our advisor, Bonnie Katzive, welcomed me with open arms. Two months later, I was promoted to Sports Editor of the yearbook, a position I held junior year as well, culminating in my position this year as Editor-In-Chief.

As I put together this portfolio, I realize how much yearbook and this publications class has influenced my life. Blood, sweat, and tears went into the book this year as I spent hours in the yearbook room with my amazing Co-EIC, Emma Wolters, designing and editing pages to perfection. Although it’s not modest, I can, in all honesty, say that this is the best yearbook we have ever had at Monarch.

My involvement with this staff has not only made me a better writer and photographer, but a better person. Being a part of the journalistic world really opens your eyes to things you may not have seen before. For that I am forever grateful.

I’m so thankful for all of the experiences and skills that being a part of this publications staff has brought me. This class/ club is really unique in that it prepares you in a professional sense while also teaching you a lot along the way. I’m so proud of all that we have accomplished as a staff, I could not have done it without my amazing support crew.

I hope you enjoy this portfolio!
